Anyone know about holiday entitlement BEFORE taking maternity leave?

Ok so I plan on going on Maternity Leave at the end of November, so have booked all my holiday entitlement (which includes an anniversary trip to Paris in August which is non-refundable). Anyway the resident bitch at work today looked through my booked holiday hours and then told me that I need to recalculate my entitlement as Im not entitled to the full years worth of holiday if Im going on Maternity leave in November. Now to me this sounds like a load of BS, as legally your entitled to accrue holiday while on maternity leave so why would I not be allowed to take all my holiday before I leave? I think shes just being an interfering old cow but am also worrying that shes right and that I will have to cancel the majority of the time Ive booked off and already made plans for. If anyone could shed any light on the subject I would really appreciate it.

Pretty sure you're right, not the resident bitch. That's definitely how it is for me. You should accrue your holiday whilst on mat leave.

You're definitely right. Is the resident bitch the relevant HR person?

RedlipsAndSlippers · 09/07/2013 19:10

I'm off on mat leave in October and am entitled to my full holiday year, I'm taking two weeks worth right before I go, and carrying some over. Sounds like she's got her head up her backside.

You're completely right. Annual leave is unchanged by maternity leave.

Essexgirlupnorth · 09/07/2013 19:12

I am taking the rest of my holiday entitlement until April before I go off in August.
Check with your HR department.

You're completely right. Tell that bitch where to go!

mamapants · 09/07/2013 19:17

In my workplace they encourage you to use up your entire holiday entitlement pre going on maternity leave but will 'allow' you to carry if over if you can't.

Thanks everyone, I think I will contact head office just to put my mind at rest but shes always doing things like this, acting like she knows everything when in fact she knows jack-shit (sorry for language just made me so mad that she looked through my holiday hours when it has nothing to do with her) shes not management, not HR, shes just another worker there who thinks shes above everyone else (she works less hours then me yet has booked nearly 20 hours more holiday then what I have)

If she's not your manager just tell her to mind her own business.

MrsReacher85 · 09/07/2013 20:02

What flowery said. Nothing to do with her!

sprite25 · 10/07/2013 09:29

Called head office, I'm entitled to the full holiday before leaving for maternity and entitled to build up the full amount while on maternity leave. Just wait til the bitch tries to bring it up again, I'll be waiting with full force pregnancy rage! Lol

I wouldn't engage with her tbh. If she brings it up again just tell her to mind her own business. If she then complains to someone she'll get short shrift.
