Benefits or no benefits?

Hi

I am in the lucky position to earn over the threshold for benefit claiming, but my other half at this time earns a very low salary. My question is if I am on stat maternity four months after birth and not earning the salary, am I actually earning it?

I am worried that when that time comes around we will be struggling financially, although saving as much as possible now. Maybe I just take six months of?

Advice appreciated

I'm sorry I don't understand your question?

it depends what benefits your talking about. tax credits would be calculated based on what your income will be for the whole tax year minus £100 per week that you are on maternity leave that year.

housing benefit is calculated based on what income you actually have coming in at the time but also takes capital too.

I think child benefit depends on if you're a higher rate tax payer or not but not sure.

I think you are asking if you will be deemed to be earning the salary, even though you are on a reduced pay.

Your tax credits will be based on last year's income. However, you can ask them to do an 'in-year calculation' which will take into account the drop in pay.

HB will be calculated on current income, so do apply if you think you may be eligible. Also with Council Tax reduction.
