I am a truck driver (female) and its been obvious for a while that I do not get the same pay as some of the other drivers. I do the same job but as we are on a pay scale I don't get paid the same ????????? can anyone explain why there is a law for equal pay but if your in a pay scale this doesn't apply???? im confused :/ I have raised this with my boss but he is flippant and just fobs me off HR are rubbish and is you raise issues with them they close rank and you end up in trouble. any help would be welcome thanks

It does apply.

The hard bit is getting employers to comply with the law. Let me know if you find out how to do that. Sad

is it based on experience?

Its perfectly normal for there to be a payscale for a particular role where you start at the bottom and work your way up, getting an increment each year. Whilst you are working your way up the increments you may well be doing the same job as those who have already reached the top of it, but for less than them?

Is that what you mean? Because that is perfectly legal.

This from the Equality Human Rights Commission is useful on equal pay and pay scales.

There are lots of variables in terms of whether this is fair.

Does everyone start off at the same point? How do you go up a point on the scale?
