Payment for KIT days

How does your employer work out how much to pay you for each full KIT day you work?

Mine seems to have divided my monthly salary by 30 which doesn't seem fair as I only work Monday to Friday.

The buy back holiday days by dividing monthly salary by 21.6 days.

There's no set legal amount- payment is by individual negotiation. Most employers top up SMP by enough to ensure someone gets their normal daily rate, assuming its a full day they've worked. Conventionally a full day for those who work part time would be 1/260 of annual salary.

Why don't you check with your employer and find out what calculation they've used and why?

Hi flowery

Thanks for that. That's what I thought too.

I'm checking with my employer too, but just wanted to see what others have been paid to see what is reasonable.

Check your company's maternity policy, it may state there how payment is calculated. Ours is at the usual daily rate.

Those who work full time, not part time, in my previous post.

Do check with them. Apart from anything else payroll dont always get it right anyway- there may simply have been an error. Also check that the extra isn't lower because they are topping up your SMP, which would be perfectly normal, and would naturally result in the daily rate showing on your payslip being lower.

Ok, so I checked and it is not my normal daily rate, it's my monthly salary divided by the number of days that month (in this case 30).

It seems pretty unfair to me, and I have queried it again. But I should have got agreement before working the days I guess.

Is there an industry standard or anything I could link to in order to challenge it?

I've received a KIT payment today and it has been calculated as salary/260 to get the daily rate.

Thanks Thompson. Mine does sound unfair so it's helpful to know what others get. My case ha been referred to our 'pay specialist in hr' so we'll see what happens.

Mine is being paid at my hourly rate and I've had to fill a time sheet in stating my exact hours. (I'm a salaried member of staff)

crochetcircle · 17/06/2013 22:03

Just heard that my work are going to recalculate my pay for KIT days using 1/260 per day rather than 1/365.

Thought I'd update in case others face the same question the future.

Thanks all for the advice.
