How would one go about getting this kind of role?

Obviously this type of job would be of high demand?

Phone your local council, they will let you know of any vacancies in your area.

Google '(your county) school based posts'

It should take you to your local council site with any opportunities there.

Have a look at local council job vacancies section - jobsgopublic - guardian jobs.

Hardly see them come up though. The school kitchen staff I know work 9 - 3 standard, with some starting earlier and finishing later depending on the school extra activities.

Our council runs own jobs website, it would be advertised there for state schools and with job centre for private schools.

Word of mouth is good, though, and speculative applications applying to be bank staff might be enough to get your foot in the door. Assuming you have some catering experience or the right NVQs.
