Sickness and sick note

I am off sick with a chest infection and this is my third day. I have phoned work and said I don't think I will be in until Monday ie 5 days off. They have said they want a doctors note. I phoned the doc and they said they don't do them until after 5 working days. Have left a message on ansaphone of my employer (no answer when I called) just waiting to find out what they say.
I feel really upset as if they they think I'm lying which I'm not.

Where do I stand with this?

According to the government website, you only need a sick note if you've been off for more than seven days: www.gov.uk/taking-sick-leave
