Car allowance

How does a car allowance work. I've applied for a job with a £26k salary plus £5k car allowance. Is it taxed the same way as regular pay? What would my monthly pay after tax but including the car allowance be?

It's just cash and you will be taxed on it in the normal way.

You may find that there are strings attached (eg car must be below a certain age or insurance must cover business use)
