How much notice do u need to give when returning maternity leave? My employer wants me to let them know asap but my year will be up in september.

8 weeks. But if you're intending to return at the last possible date you don't need to do anything. They should assume you will return when your year is up unless you notify them otherwise.

If they are hassling you, then no they shouldn't be, and just tell them you don't know yet and will of course give the requisite notice.

If they are asking, that is fine.
