A question about keeping nursing PIN

I'm planning to phone the NMC tomorrow but I reckon you guys will be just as knowledgable anyway!

I'm a paediatric nurse but a job has just come up as a nursery nurse on the maternity unit which I'd really love. Obviously it's a lower band and no nursing qualification required but I wonder, if I went for it, woukd I still be able to do my PIN on the basis I'd be working in the hospital and continuing professional development etc. I'd like to do this for a while then possibly apply for Heath visiting but ideally I'd like to not have to do bank work to keep my Pin up as well

Yes, the requirements are quite broad for 're registration so you should easily be able to demonstrate that you are using nursing skills and competences. Have a look on nmc web page, this is a common faq I think.

I think it depends on the hospital Trust itself. Our trust for example will not employ staff who have registration for any non qualified posts.

Actually, I think you'll need to read the prep handbook carefully, to clarify the bit about the role not requiring registration. Sorry, I haven't been that helpful!

TiredEmma, that's very interesting and something to consider, thank you. I'd never considered that tbh, there's nothing in the job description that states this but maybe I should phone the unit and get clarification.

I'm hoping my skill set would be in tune enough that they might consider me (I have neonatal experience and would be applying for a job on the immediate post natal ward) but hadn't considered I may be viewed as overqualified. Hmm.
