can anyone who interviews help please? should i phone?

i had an interview on Monday and was told i would be told one way or the other on Wedsnesday.

i waited in all day yesterday - no calls.
i checked emails - no email

still nothing today. If i rang them would it seem pushy? would it go against me?
i dont know what to do. im a nervous wreck and need to know. They definitely said Wednesday they would call or email - and havent.

It's unlikely to go against you or seem pushy as most likely the decision has been taken.

sounds rather like they might be waiting on a response from their first choice. You would therefore have nothing to lose by chasing it up with HR, re emphasising how keen you are, in case the 1st choice doesn't accept. Happens A LOT

Although what sort of job was it? If they were interviewing a lot of people then it might be a longer wait.

it was an admin post within the NHS. 3 panel interview - but definitely said they would let me know one way or the other on Wednesday.

I'd imagine that there are a lot of levels of approval to go through in NHS hiring so maybe they're waiting on someone? it is HOliday season. Still, worth a friendly & positive call to HR>

contact them......you wont appear pushy,in my position,I recruit on a regular basis and would happily provide interviewee's with feedback etc....go 4 it

well ive got the number for the appointing officer and an email address.
tried phoning but no answer.

will try again and then email if no joy.

I interview people and would resent being put in the spot with a phone call. An email would not bother me in the slightest.

i dont understand why they said they would let me know on a certain day and then go silent on me. Its difficult to stay positive the longer the silence goes on.

its not likely ive got it, is it?

It's most likely that you are second choice at this stage and no1 is taking ages to deliberate.

Either that or their admin is shite- in which case do you still want the job Wink

Maybe the relevant people are off sick?
Maybe the people you've put forward as references have yet to reply/ are sick also?
Maybe the people they need to confer with have been too busy?

Sometimes, with the best will in the world, it just takes longer than one expects. Don't panic!

im a bit peeved.
i had the exact experience they wanted - right down the the very specific computer system and working with the group of folks it was catering to....

oh well. there is sod all i can do now.

People sometimes over-promise then find they can't make a decision when they thought they could (someone off sick, other stuff comes up, someone else starts meddling) and no one thinks to contact the poor candidates who are all on tenterhooks.

Or, they've contacted their first choice who has asked for some time to think about it.

Easter holidays have thrown everything off.
Do take it as a sign of lack of organisation; you may not want to work for them if that's what they're like.

you were right.
i was second choice - someone beat me by 2 (bastard) points.
the interview was scored. - My feedback was excellent - they said i came across extremely well and there was nothing more i could have done, that my interview was excellent. that someone just beat me when they totted the scores up by 2.
so thats that then.
back to police for me.....
not sure how i feel. clearly they had waited to contact me to see if candidate 1 wanted it.
it was a huge pay cut. im trying to believe that all things happen for a reason
or something equally philosophical.

Ahhrrrggg!!

But you know you did well; try to hold onto that consolation.
I'm one of 25 people being considered for 5 positions; I know I did well at interview but well enough?! Who knows. I'll find out this week (hopefully).

If it was meant to be,the other candidate will drop out.

(This happened to my DP once)

Whatever happens it shows you are a good candidate and stand every chance of being number 1 choice next time :)

Yes well done vicarina. I just finished some recruitment and I can say the top two candidates were very difficult to separate but we could only appoint one. Would have been pleased to offer either the job. I'm sure it was the same with you, so try to feel chuffed that you made it so difficult for them!

well. mixed feelings.
the job i went for would have meant a 14k pay cut but i really wanted it....anything for a normal job again.

seems im destined to be abnormal for a while longer....maybe its fate.
or something!
