Unison are excellent, though TBH you may well find that no union is happy to represent someone who hasn't been paying subs and only decides to join when they have a problem. No harm in asking though.

2 points:
a union is only as good as its local members, so you'll need to ask around at work
and the one I'm in won't cover you for issues arising within 4 weeks of your membership start date, as they had too many people only deciding to pay subs when the shit hit the fan.

Yes ask which one your colleagues are in, and yes they are unlikely to help with an existing situation, and if you think you may have a case for constructive dismissal, I imagine there has been plenty going on already.

Can we help at all?

I'd love some help. Worried about identifying myself. Will post again under a NC
