VAT - how to actually register on line!!

Seem to be going round in circles a bit on the HMRC web site!! Company is set up and registered, have a Tax reference # from HMRC too.

Now trying to set up to register for VAT - would like to do it on line but all the on line forms need you to put in a VAT number to register for the online part!!

Argghhhh!!! Any quick guidance out there??!!

Probably best to wait till tomorrow and ring them. In my experience they're pretty helpful.

It is massively frustratin gwhen they insist you do things online and then won't let you, though!

Phone them they will send you out an authorisation code.

OK - it appears from the website you should be able to do it all on line but need to get the initial code via phone or a manual form. Just a bit confusing!!

do you need to register for VAT right away?

have you checked with your accountant whether it might be beneficial not to be registered?
