Considering resigning

I work in NHS hospital and the long hours are getting too much. I can hardly get to the dentist get my car serviced let alone spend time with family .
Also the intensity of the work is getting worse... Really not sure if I want to stick it out for the rest of the year . I appreciate its not supposed to be fun and like hard work but am flagging quite badly.

How long have you been employed with the NHS for? It is really hard to find a balance of working shifts and family life. Can your partner help with the practical things like getting the car serviced?

I don't think so although he does help with the children when I work weekends and do a bit of tidying up.
It's so difficult to get time off as well as we are so short staffed.

But you are entitled to your holiday entitlement, sounds like you need some time off to regroup.

What do you find so intense, is it day to day or specific duties?

It's a combination of things.. The intensity and challenge of the shifts which are demanding and tiring, and the overall busyness of the other days, and finishing late and the lack of time at home to do normal things. Also lack of support at times.
I enjoy it, at least most of it although working conditions could be better.

Could you reduce your hours? It's amazing what a difference working a few less hours can make. Public sector are much better at flexibility than industry so it's worth a shot.

The job market is tough at the moment. I would think twice about leaving something unless you don't need to worry about the money.

I would look at a less demanding post or reducing hours rather than leaving altogether. The post I am in finishes in 4 months, if I left I would have to give 3 mos notice so hardly worth t now I suppose.

I'm assuming you are a nurse? You could apply for flexible working?

I am a Dr. I am not eligible for less than full time training as I belong to the Trust not the Deanery. I can ask but have asked before and they said no.
It sure is possible to change contract or this job but maybe for next one.
