Hi I am a very experience nanny and I am thinking of starting up my own nanny agency. I have been looking into this for a few weeks now and come up with a few things eg business plan etc.

1 But my problem is finding out about cost ?
2 Business insurance ? However I will be working from home.
3 The law ? Do I have to register and if so with who ?
4 Tax /account I know I do this as self employed?

Also if you been a parent sign with an agency any feed back on what you liked and didn't like from the agency you was with would be nice.

I know I am in the right area for this agency and have the right niche. Help any advice will do.

Thanks

I think the legislation is:
The Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003 plus all the amendments. So you will need to dig up all the changes over the past 10 years.

There is a consultation document (pdf) with regard to the legislation, so that may be worth a read.

Gov.uk: Employment Agencies and Businesses - may help explain difference between an employment agency and an employment business.

Contact ANA they may be able to offer some assistance.

As a nanny I have found the best agencies I have dealt with have been run, or had someone involved in their business, who had previously worked for a large recruitment company. They were an experienced recruiter.

Do you have any experience of recruiting staff? Whilst you have experience being a nanny, you may or may not have had any experience with management of staff, recruiting staff, shifting through job applications, that sort of thing. Also you may have no Sales Experience - selling something... selling people? A nanny agency I feel is there to sell the nanny to the parents, they aid the parents in finding the ideal nanny for the parents based on which nannies the agency knows are looking for work. As a nanny I need an agency which can promote me to parents, sell the benefits of them having a nanny and more specifically having me as their nanny. I see it essentially as a sales job... selling me to the parents. The parents may in turn see it differently, you are helping them find the right candidate for their position. So you need to sell the job to the nanny and sell the nanny to the parents.
