In another life many million trillion years ago (well just two but feels like a million) I worked as a solicitor specialising in family law based in central london and mainly dealing with LNW financial remedy stuff, Children Act, Family Law Act, (mainly financed by public funding), the usual high street practice kind of thing. Of course, since giving up work to care for DC, we have the new family rules, massive changes in public funding and lots and lots of new case law. I have been trying to keep up with changes via Family Law Week and online CPD but realise that when I go back to work I am not likely to hit the deck running as it were. I did start looking for work just before I fell pregnant with DS just over a year ago and my experience was that firms with a public funding franchise were not taking on - they were either dumping their franchise or absorbing work instead of replacing lost staff. I have decided that I will start to actively look when DS is 9 months old. Does anyone have any recent experience of this job market?
