Hi I just wondered if anyone has recieved carers allowance that has then had to make a claim for maternity pay

I am self employed and receive £58.45 carers allowance a week for my eldest son.Im due to claim maternity allowance soon.I just wondered what rate of maternity allowance I'm likely to get as I understand carers allowance will stop.

Thank you

If you pay Class 2 National Insurance you are entitled to Maternity Allowance at £135.45pw (£136.78 from April 2013). If you have not paid Class 2 NI because you hold a Small Earnings Exception Certificate you will only get £27pw.

You will not be entitled to receive Carers' Allowance while receiving MA, but you will remain "eligible for CA" in relation to other benefits.
