holiday during notice period?

I have been given a start date for my new job. I have worked out that if I give notice on my old job so that my notice period ends the Friday before my new job starts on the Monday I will actually be on holiday for 1 week of my 4 weeks notice period. Can I do that? Or would I have to give notice 5 weeks prior to new job so that I was actually working for 4 weeks before I left?

Any help gratefully received.

No problem if pre booked holiday falls within notice period - it all counts to the 4 weeks. Congrats on the new job!
