Is there a minimum time between shifts for night workers?

My DHs working hours were 8.15 pm to 7 am. They have recently changed them so he doesn't finish until 8 am. He also has this "unofficial" 5.15 pm start time most Sundays which was set up by the manager before him which he can't (more likely won't) change.

Most weeks he doesn't roll in until 9.30 am on Sunday, ("things to finish"), straight to bed and off again at 5 pm. I was sure there is a minimum time between shifts when you are on permanent nights and it's got to be longer than 7 1/2 hours.

Does anyone know?

Thanks pixiefish. That rang a bell with me too, so I just did a search on acas and found that it is 11 hours (should have done that first!). DH's response was "I'll just have to stop doing Saturdays and Sundays" which basically confirms what I thought- it's not has to but chooses to. :(
