Part-time nightmare?

I have been working as a supply teacher for a number of years and as my youngest is starting school in Sept I have started looking around for part-time jobs.

I haven't seen anything advertised part-time that suited me but have applied to a couple of jobs that were advertised full time and asked to be considered on a job share or part-time basis.

Yesterday I e-mailed my application (for a cover supervisor job) to a school and minutes later I received a snappy reply from their personnel manager that they needed someone there from Monday to Friday.

I feel really annoyed! Is it so unreasonable to ask to be considered on a job share basis? Or am I better off waiting for part-time jobs to come up?

Not unreasonable to ask, but that personnel manager had probably received the same request from 100 other candidates already ....

It is really tough out there at the moment and I wish you loads of luck in finding something that's suitable for you.

Is there plenty of supply work in your area, to tide you over until something more permanent comes up?

Thanks, supply work has slowed down in the last year or so, I have registered with another agency now but would really like something more permanent once DC are both at school.

It's not unreasonable but if that isn't what they want, it's probably better that you get a fast response rather than hanging around for ages in hope.

I think it IS worth asking potential employers if they would consider a job share even if the post is advertised as full time so I would keep going if I were you....

Yes, maybe it would be better to call and ask beforehand.
