Please help me prepare for this interview

I am a SAHM and haven't worked for 6 years. I've applied for a few jobs lately and have just been invited for an interview next week. I am shitting myself!

I used to have a job with lots of responsibility etc and I know I can do this job, but I feel all my confidence has gone down the drain with not working for so long.

Can I ask you for any tips or advice on how to get through the interview, common questions I can prepare for, questions to ask etc. Also on what to wear. My wardrobe is casual nowadays but I have a black wrap dress I was thinking of wearing with some tights and heels and a nice scarf - would that be ok?

Btw the job is in a school office (quite a smart school) and I really want it!

If its an admin support type job, I should imagine you will be given various admin tasks to do. Maybe type a letter to assess your keyboard skills, a list of tasks for you to prioritise, answering 'set up' phone calls to see how you deal with stroppy parents!

Depending on how much contact you would have with the students, then safeguarding questions will arise - safeguarding is number 1 priority in schools- obviously. So whatever tasks you are given, the one relating to safety will be top priority.

Thanks Fedup, that's really helpful. They did say there would be a test so I'm hoping my brain hasn't decayed too much in the 6 years I've been at home. I'll plan for some phonecall scenarios too.

They will probably ask what qualities do you think the ideal school clerical officer should have - apart from the obvious being organised, good communication skills, reliable, there are other aspects of school life you will need to be aware of.
Importance of confidentiality, aware of Health and Safety issues with children and visitors around, importance of security in the building.
They might ask you how you would cope with an angry parent or how you would react if a child made a disclosure to you about being abused.
Don't be too nervous, remember the interviewers are only human too, and are hoping to find someone who will fit into the school team.
