Covering letter for job application

If you don't know the name or gender of the person, would it be better to use 'To Whom it May Concern' or 'Dear Sir or Madam' or another greeting?

Also, I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to summarise skills and experience without it being too I, I, I, me, me, me.

Thanks.

Dear Sir/Madam,
...
Yours faithfully,
TotemPole

Job applications should be all me, me, me as you want the people reading it to have a good sense of why you're the right person for the job.
You could say:

  • "My interpersonal skills are ..."
  • "Five years in a managerial position have allowed me to develop sound budgetary planning"
  • "A mixed ability team has given plenty of scope to show strong performance management."
Try to give specific examples of what you have done that respond to the job description. Don't say "we did" or "my team did" - it is about you.

jkklpu, thank you so much.

That's helped me with the wording. My first attempt was full of, 'I did this', 'I did that' type of sentences.
