NHS consultation any advice greatly accepted...

Can anyone help me? Currently going through a restructure. The consultation paper for my area has come out today, job is safe but the base is now 36 miles away. I've been told I'm safe as my job is still there but the added travel and childcare issues will mean extra child care costs with the possibility of having to reduce my hours.

Just to explain, I work full time and am able to do this as my MIL has the children early three times a week so I can start work at 730. She drops the children off to their childcare places and then drops off the car to me at work so I am able to collect the children.

Will they consider this ,what can I do ?

If what you're saying is you'd rather be made redundant, then it will depend if this relocation is a suitable alternative. They are supposed to take personal circumstances into account, so if it's a significantly longer commute, that might help you argue that it's enough of a change to be a redundancy.

If what you want is to keep your job but reduce hours, you can only ask, there's no obligation for them to do so if there are business reasons that isn't possible.

I guess what I want to know is how I can request home working or hot desking at the place I am currently based at... How can I request this?

Well if you are in consultation it should have been made clear to you how you can ask questions about the process and the decision. Have you been given that information?

What you are essentially asking is for the decision regarding your own job to be reversed, and it either to remain based at your current location or based from home, or partly from home.

You should have been given details of the business reasons for the proposed changes so have a look at those, because you are going to need to demonstrate how these business needs can still be met without your job moving.

Speak to your manager as he/she should be able to advise you of how to make your request, and if you are in a union also speak to your rep as he/she should be able to help you.

It's hard to say without knowing what your job is. If you are team based, permanent home working is unlikely. Are they providing hot desking for others at your current base? What are the needs of the service?

Agree with flowery, the consultation should make it clear how to ask those questions. There should be Q&A sessions or similar.

I would decide what you want thought. Are you willing to work at the new base? Would you prefer to take redundancy?
