I started a new job 6 weeks ago, i know from past experiace that I am comfier with one and have found my ankels in the afternoons feel sowlen and uncomfy and like having a foot stool would help, so I emailed the head of admin to request a foot stool and this was my response

"There should be no need for you to have a footstool.

We don?t issue them as standard.

If you are uncomfortable we can do a DSE assessment to ensure you are sitting at the right height and screens are in the right place / height etc"

Im feeling miffed AIBU?

A DSE assessment will ask you "Can you place your feet on the floor?" then "If you cannot place your feet on the floor, is a footrest available?" - so if you can't put them on the floor they ought to supply one.

Should you not have had a workstation assessment as a matter of course?

I have a footstool as my feet don't sit flat on the floor when my chair is at the right height. Seems very churlish of them to refuse like that.

A Dse assessment should be standard to all new employees. Mainly as the previous occupant could've been 5'2 or 6'7 so could be outside standard anyway. Also it's a record for the firm, at x date person y had no physical cause for complaint.

Request the Dse. It's innocuous. Mrs hitler is just using it to intimidate. More her personal issue than any firms. Honest.

Oh, just reply saying'yes please' and you'll get your footstool. Head of admin just being officious.

I do DSE assssments where I work. You're supposed to do one every year or whenever you change desk. If they haven't done one they're breaking the law.

So, say "yes please, I'd like a DSE assssment because by law I should have had one already".

i should also add that they're correct to say that foot rests shouldn't be issued as standard. They should only be given once the need for one has been determined with a DSE assessment.
