P45 says one date, contract says another

Hello,

I recently started working as a Christmas temp. Before this I was on JSA. My contract says 4th November, however I didn't actually start work until the 21st November, before this I was completing training for the role. My P45 states my end date as 20/11/12.

Should I have told the Jobcentreplus my contract start date or the date I actually started work?

Really worried about HMRC, because for me the date I started work was the 21/11, but the contract start date is actually 2 days after my interview.

Why do you not count training as work? Were you not being paid for it?

I imagine they are interested in what date your employment with the company started, and it sounds like it may have started on 4 November.

Update: called the job centre, I had informed them of my training. It was under 16 hours a week so I can breathe.
