When should I apply?

I'm currently a SAHM, I want a job, but not until my youngest is 6 months plus. I'm just going to be looking for a sort of an admin type placeholder whilst I study a further course to get where I really want to be.
My babies are 2yrs and 2 weeks, but I just wonder if I should start applying now, with the job market as it is, it may well take that long to get a job. What would everyone else do? Would you start applying now or would you wait until you actually want the job?

As a rule of thumb, for every £10k you earn, it takes one month to get a job earning that amount, so £20k would be two month etc. Not an exact science I'm afraid, but hope it helps as a guide. Good luck.
