Is this discrimination?

My employers are refusing to countersign my CRB because some documents are addressed as Ms. others and Mrs. or Miss.

I kept the same name when I married, have ticked no in the box that asks if you have ever had another name and when I explained that actually my title is irrelevant, the woman doing the CRB check was insistent that they would not countersign it. Subsequently she has e-mailed by boss and said I was acting agressively when asked about the mismatches. (so therefore must be dodgy) I wasn't but just pointing out the facts to her. I have rung CRB and doubled checked and they say they have no issues with the titles being different because as long as my documents say my name that is fine with them. I feel like I'm being treated like a suspect because some admin woman really thinks I should have taken my husbands name.

You need to email CRB and ask them to put it in an email back to you that there's no problem with the titles being different.

Then forward the email to your boss....and a complaint about the ignorant woman.

That's a good idea. I do actually feel a complaint is warranted because really I am a professional person and not an appendage to a man.

No it isn't discrimination. It's an admin woman being a bit over-officious and jobsworth rather than engaging common sense ( if she indeed has the discretion to do so).

I also think you're being a little over sensitive to assume she is conveying an opinion about whether you should have taken your husbands name or not. I would think that's reading too much into it. Sometimes people in relatively low level jobs perform as part of their role tasks which effectively give them access to more power over others than strictly fits with the level of role. Some of those people feel the need to exercise that power where possible for the sake of their own self-importance. The stereotypical doctors receptionist being an example. Don't give this woman that much power over you, which claiming discrimination would be doing. Roll your eyes, forward CRB confirmation that its not a problem to your boss and move on.
