Really behind with my accounts

Help!

Have been in denial - just stuffing receipts on a box.

Need to sort myself out. I'm a freelancer so it's all train fares /coffees etc but even so.

How do you organise your accounts?

What's the best way to clear the backlog?

Try QuickFile. It's free!

First sort by month into poly-pockets, then just tackle one at a time, feels a lot less overwhelming. I'm also a big fan of the 15 minute rule when faced with mountains of paper!

Good plan. Manageable chunks sounds good.

What do you do with them? Last year I stapled each one onto a sheet in a folder but it seems a waste. Can I just keep them in their monthly pockets once I've put them on my spreadsheet?

Yes, keep them in their pockets - I have a box file which just about fits a year, so they just come out to be logged when I need them eg doing VAT returns etc

by month, by category, into re-used envelopes, newest on top
then onto a spreadsheet - one cell per month per category
mark EVERY receipt so you cannot count it twice
and read my ebay me page to make sure you've not missed anything
