What hours do you work?

Currently I work part time, but I'm retraining and will have to get a full graduate position in order to get a professional certification. Although I want to do this career move I'm worried how it will work out.

What time do you start and finish work and what are your childcare arrangements for school aged children?

childcare is DH with the very occasional back up from my parents, after school club.

I have worked ft since DS was a baby. He's 10 now and I start work about 9.30 so I can do the school run but I don't finish until 7 or so. I find working ft is much less stressful than trying to work a short day and leave by a particular time I work 5 days a week.

9 - 5.30 but often have to do work at home too. DS is in afterschool club until 6. No breakfast club but can drop at school from 8.35 whilst he's in reception as they open early for the nursery class. I spend my life rushing across town by the skin of my teeth & working through lunch to get stuff done. I must admit it's taking it's toll but at the moment I'm just rolling with it as quite a few things are set to change in our lives soon so it'll all be up in the air anyway.

I work for the NHS in a prison, I am very lucky in that my manager is fine if I have to start late if ever I have to take my DC;s to breakfast club as we run a B&B from home. As long as my work is done.

tiger those are the sort of hours I worry that I might have to put in to start with. How do you manage, dinner, bedtimes etc..? Does your husband do the school pick ups?

7-3. DH drops the kids off with a Childminder who does the school run. I pick up at 3.30. I have plans in place should I need to work late (phone the Childminder and beg).

I took a massive step backwards and work Monday - Friday, 9-3 term time only. It meant a big pay cut but it is brilliant for my family. I am aware that I am very lucky to have found a job with these hours, and that we can afford for me to do it.

When DS was small I always did the drop off and DH always did the pick up. Pretty much the same now, a friend (she is a CM and we pay) has him for the 45 mins or so after school before DH can collect or sometimes he walks home and let's himself in, he loves that but we are in a v rural area and we don't have any real worries about that. we just have to sort out dinners but men can cook so that's not.a problem. I know that this is anathema to lots of posters but particularly when DS was v small work was much more appealing than potato printing

The main thing for me is nt having t rush away in the evening. I can leave work when I want. There are traffic issues where I work, so leaving at 5 gets you home at 6 at the earliest. Leaving at 6 gets you home at 6.30 and all your work is done.

I work 8.30-5.30

wrap around care at school is 7.45-6pm but I'm usually driving like a loon to get back as I work 13 miles away!

I work 8.30 to 2.30 - started these hours in Sept after previously working 4 days.

Same hours, infinitely nicer home life...

Here is my crazy week.

Mon:..work 7am to 11am...Uni 12pm to 3pm

Tues:..work 8am to 2pm

Weds: Work 8am to 1pm...Uni 2pm to 5pm

Thurs: Uni 9am to 12pm...work 2pm to 7pm

Fri: Uni 9am to 12pm...work 1pm to 5pm

Sat and Sun...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

It's absolutely perfect - I feel so lucky that my boss was up for it.

DH drops DS off at 8.45 and is in for 9am, I collect DS and am home for DD who walks home after school.

Evenings and mornings are much better than when I was working 9am - 5.30 four days a week - works for us!
