employment tribunal & public information?

i am taking an organisation to an employment tribunal (and also to a judicial review).

How much in the public eye would this be? I hear of these cases coming out in the media, but don't know if the media have an automatic right to access the court. how does it all work?????

Tribunals are public anybody can attend including press. Whether the press do attend and whether they choose to feature in their news will depend on how interesting they think it will be to readers/viewers.

How come you are taking it to judicial review?

I'd rather not give any more information about it all, to be honest. No disrespect intended, but I am aware that this is a public forum and so ANYONE could be reading!

Restricted Reporting Orders
The inclusion of a case in the Press List is no guarantee that it is not subject to a restricted reporting order. Members of the Press should ensure that no order exists on an
individual case before submitting material for publication.

You can buy copies of transcripts of ET decisions. They aren't generally available online. Doubt whether the Meeja (other than the Guardian and legal press) would be interested in transcripts.

Any person who is not a party to the proceedings (whether in the ET or the High Court for the JR) may apply to the Court for a copy of a statement of case (i.e. the Particulars of Claim) but not any documents attached to the statement of case. They can also apply for a copy of a judgment or order.

It's in the Civil Procedure Rules at Part 5.4C

As to whether or not the media would pick it up... it depends on how interesting the claim is! As Giveme says, court rooms are public places so unless the Judge decides to make an order restricting reporting, there's not a lot you can do.

I have to say though that most court cases aren't particularly newsworthy unless they involve a celeb. I am a solicitor for a public body and none of the cases against us in recent years have made more than the tiniest ripple in the press.

Are you doing this as a litigant in person? For your sake, I hope not. Get a decent solicitor and barrister. Happy to recommend people off-board (unless, of course, it's my organisation that you're taking to court!)

I'm part way through one, against someone fairly important, and no media as yet... still a few days to go though.
