Is anyone a freelance translator?

Hi, I have a 2 yo DD and am looking to start up as a freelance translator. I have a degree in French and Spanish (which included modules in translation) and spent time living in both France and Spain.

I have done a couple of translations for the company I used to work for and found it challenging but in an enjoyable way!

I would initially start off by offering translations from Spanish into English and perhaps offer french to English once a little more established.

I guess what I am asking is how you find work, I have seen websites like translatorbase etc... Is there another way of attracting clients or finding projects?

Thank you for any advice in advance.

My friend is a translator, and she works for a few agencies. So you should research these on the net, give them a call, and then send in your cv.

Hi there. I work as a bookings coordinator for an interpreting and translation agency.
Your qualifications sound ideal. Usually translators have a dpsi or degree in a language which has a translation module as you say in your post.

Do you have experience in translating at all?

I'm not trying to recruit you, honest. Grin

We don't have a lot of use for police work in the languages you provide but we certainly have more health work like medical reports and private work like marriage certificates.

ihatethecold are you looking for translators at the moment? I have a first degree in French & German and a MA in Technical & Specialised Translation for the same languages.

I have some experience, but would like to build upon it, having taken a career break to have my 2 DSes & would be more than happy to start off with short, general texts & certificates.

Please PM me if you are interested!
