Does your DH work away ?

Just looking for some insight from anyone who's DH works away . DH is currently going through recruitment to the oil rigs .

How hard is it ? Do you get used to it ?
Is the money really that good that it's worth it?

My DH does 4 weeks on 4 off. These are short rotations though compared to some.
It's ok, you do get used to it. I find it weirder when he's home and messing up my kitchen!

Not on the rigs, but away a lot.
He's spent 9 of the last 12 weeks away (and I've been away for one of the others).
Have you got family close by? If not (and even if you do), you need to find some reliable babysitters. Otherwise your whole life stops in the evenings when he isn't around (I'm assuming you have small kids!).
Yes, you get used to it. And you find out who the amazing friends are who will pick up takeaway, and bring it round occasionally, so you can gossip.
The money - not sure, but it is supposed to be good. And if you can juggle childcare to be very flexible, it can reduce that loads as well.

I have a great support system here in both my own and DHs family (I actually like my ILs )
my DH is a chef and works really long and excessive hours anyway so I am used to being on my own tbh .

It was tough going just after DS2 arrived, but I imagine your oldest it at school, so you could catch up with with either sleep or jobs when baby is snoozing?

It will probably be easier than a chef - from what i know, those are crazy hours, so you are likely to see more of him!

Yeah he's looking to cook on the rigs . He's not been told a salary yet so I'm really hoping it's all going to be worth it I'm a bit skeptical about it but he is determined to do it he's sick of working all the hours of the day for buttons . But I think to go through all the offshore lifestyle it would really need to be worth it financially .

IMO you also need to think what he's going to do in his time at home. Is he the type to go stir crazy at not working, or will he be actively involved and doing things in the house / for the DC to give to a breather?

Give you a breather, I mean.

My DH works away during the week, it is worth it financially otherwise we wouldn't do it - he work where we are and come home every evening, but the choice of doing that is taken away when there are either no jobs in the area or they don't pay enough.
It's fine for me as my dc's are older, I work during the day so I love my peace in the evenings , when he is home sometimes he annoys me.....
