Your top cover letter writing tips

That's it really. I'm applying for jobs but not getting anywhere so what are your top tips for cover letters/CVs to get attention?

Research the company you're applying to and read the job description carefully. In your letter give a couple of brief specific examples of how your skills and experience fit the job description and say that you would be very excited to join a company that is doing xyz (referring to recent news story or their website from your research). Watch your spelling and grammar - get a pedantic friend to proofread.

I have to say that pp had given good tips - but if you are not getting anywhere get someone to reivew your CV and also make sure that the jobs you are applying you have all the essentials they are asking for
