Chartered Company Secretary (ICSA)

I'm thinking of starting a part time masters LLM degree in Corporate Governance which would also be the first step towards becoming a Company Secretary. Is this a silly thing to do at the age of 39 given that it's going to be at least 10 years until I achieve chartered status (assuming I can do it at all) and will need to take a pay cut initially?

I have a first degree in International Management and French and coming up for 20 years of work history but took a wrong turn about 10 years ago end and now find myself at the end of a very dull career cul de sac.

I would love to hear from anyone who is working in this field and to get your honest opinion.

Hello Cheerup,
Not working in this field but am thinking of doing the same as you so watching with interest. Am stuck in a career rut and have enjoyed the exposure my roles to date have given me to corporate governance. Also toying with retraining as a lawyer but feel that is not really as viable in practical terms as a company secretary career.
