Meetings during Mat Leave

Hi there! My bosses have asked me to do a couple of training sessions during my mat leave which I've been told I won't get hours owed for (they never pay us for extra work...). This training is compulsory for my job. In starting my KIT days next week & will need this refresher course....these are not KIT days however.

Oops; Forgot the question!!! Can they do this? Demand that I do this in my own time? I have 3 children I need to have looked after for these days.....I've been told if I don't attend thus session I'll need to sort one out for myself after I come back from MAT leave.. They know, however that I really need to do this before I do my KIT days...

KIT days are for training etc too - so if they require you to attend then they have to come from your KIT days.

They can't require or demand you attend anything at all. But if you decide it would be a good idea to go, absolutely you can insist one of your KiT days is for this purpose, and that you want to be paid.

Thanks Flowery. Saw them today & the Practice Manager stood firm that as these training days are a requirement for me to do my job, I should be doing it in my own time. (!??? Quite the opposite I would've thought!). I said that other staff members were doing it within working hours & I shouldn't have to come in on my on time & arrange childcare. She said that other members of staff were coming in on their on time & weren't getting time in lieu. I stood firm though & they're going to discuss it....Hmmmm. I reckon that training required for us to carry out our duties at work should be their duty to provide us with?

have you got legal insurance on your home insurance? That can be good for checking things like this...
