Need some urgent advice re. sick pay and resignation issues

Hi will keep this as short as possible.
I started a job in Sept as a TA 5 days a week and suddenly fell very, very ill and had to be hospitalised. I am still having ongoing tests. I had only been working 7 days and signed no contract when this happened. I kept in contact throughout and finally wrote to the school explaining that I would be unable to fulfill the required hours of the job presenting all the documentation from the GP and hospital. I didn't think it was feasable that I continue in the role full-time so suspected they would not want me to work there any longer after Sept.
It seems the school paid me for this month and are now asking I repay the amount minus 7 days that I worked.
I was unwell for the last 2 weeks of Sept. so am I entitled to sick pay for this?
I am trying to keep emotions out of it but obviously am very upset.

Have you had anything from the school pr local athority that is about your working conditions, such as hours of work, level of pay, staff handbook? Those I feel would be where to look for things about what happens if you are ill.

This will entirely depend on your terms and conditions.

There us no automatic entitlement to any occupational sick pay, but you may have been entitled to statutory sick pay after the first four days of sickness.

I didn't sign any contract you see. I am contacting them today to ask for a payslip at least and some documentation to say they dismissed me.

The thing is I have been offered a position for less hours now which suits me much better so I am no longer interested in the job esp as they are so horrible to me for daring to fall ill.

I would of thought I was entitled to SSP, will read think thank you...

Did they dismiss you or did you resign? From your OP it sounded like you resigned.

You would have been working under a contract even if you didn't technically sign it, so look at the contract you were given to find out what your sick pay entitlement was. It's very likely any sick pay over and above SSP wouldn't apply so soon, although I don't know.

i wasn't shown or given a contract. Yes I resigned due to ill health as I couldnt complete the hours they wanted me to.
it's quite complicated but basically I feel like I was entiteled to sick pay for some of that time.

I would expect you to be entitled to some SSP as per hairytale's link then.

If your average weekly earnings were £107 a week in the 8 weeks before your sickness then you would be entitled to £85.85 a week SSP for the time you were off sick. If your earnings were below that then I'm afraid it doesn't look like you would be entitled to any pay unless your contract says so.
