One of my family has applied and has got through to the assessment day.
Can you advise on what happens on this day, what to expect and what to do to best prepare?
Also, do they take blood and urine samples to check for drugs etc?

No, Lancashire.
Well its described as a half day, seems like a long time for just a talk dont you think?
Do you know any thing about the urine or blood tests?

Donbean why are you so worried about the urine/blood tests?

Donbean · 21/03/2006 16:38

The relative in question has had the year from hell and was started on ADs, just wondered how they view such things and would it affect application thats all.
He really would be an amazing police officer he is perfect for it but has needed a bit of help over the last year with ads.

Not a huge dose but has started to ween from them and symptoms are coming back so question is does he stop them to get in and possibly become less than optimal to get into the force or does he continue and come off them when he is absolutely ready? Do you see what i mean?

I think he needs to be honest about this, or at least speak to his gp about whether it needs to be disclosed. Sometimes these things do not need to be discussed with prospective employers!
I didnt even know they did blood and urine tests anymore, isnt that some sort of 'against human rights' thingy

Donbean · 21/03/2006 16:46

I realy think that it will affect his application though, regardless of the reasons for needing them and explanations given.
Its the type of job where you need to be in tip top mentally sound health to begin with. Its after the dreadful things they see that they are allowed to break down isnt it!

My SIL has just failed getting into the police. Not 100% sure at what stage, she took some exams, passed them, done the role play thing, passed that, done a fitness test, passed that. Apparently she only just failed, not sure how she knew that. But they did want a medical report and she has had 3 quite long periods off work with Stress. I would imagine thats the reason.

buffythenappyslayer · 21/03/2006 18:09

nothing to do with police recruting, but my dh has just joined the firebrigade and when he went for the medical, they did urine tests on all of the applicants.didnt do blood tests though.just thought that maybe their medical is similar to the firebrigades.
