Info on becoming a distributor of goods to end users

Hi
I appreciate anyone taking the time to read this post.
Basically I have a niche field of expertise and recently got in touch with someone who is in the same field but selling goods to end users in a different area. He is looking for another person to promote/sell the products to the niche of end users in my area and I get 20% commission on sales. Now one of the products is well known to me and when I went on their website there was a click button to become a distributor. Now if I was to get 20% then surely he must also be making money and therefore getting a better profit margin.
This got me thinking - I could do that! Basically what he has done is get a range of products - give the company a name and sell to the end user. My problem is that other than this well known product (and im not saying I would steal anyones thunder - I have other ideas for that market) I can't find other products where you can click on the site and become a distributor. I'm a bit confused about wholesalers etc. Anyone got an idiots guide to running this sort of business?
Many thanks
