I am looking for a change of career now that I've had my DC's and I am considering learning a trade.

I can't see myself as a builder but have been wondering what it's like to be an electrician or plumber?

How much training is required? Can I work for myself? is the money good? I'm in good health but which of the jobs is the most physically demanding?

I've always worked in offices and I'm sick of it!

If you have any advice it would be appreciated!

My ex was an electrician and it was quite physically demanding...lots of crawling into small spaces and shoving bunches of wire through walls...his hands were like leather.

My DH is a decorator and works for a firm who specialise in listed buildings...he likes that as he's in some stunning properties and gets to do interesting work instead of the usually slapping up white paint.

Plumbing...the same...smashing up toilets and dealing with poo stuffed pipes.

The money can be good but it's not massive. You can work for yourself...it may take a few years to become properly qualified.
