Working whilst being paid statutory maternity pay..

Am pretty sure it's illegal? Employers have not asked me to do it, but have made it clear they'd like me to. It's only 4hrs/wk & it's partly training for a new role I'd be taking on on my return. Is there any way around the legal issue? I am already doing my 10 KIT days for another project.

Yes it is illegal.

you're allowed to do Self-employed work while getting SMP, if that helps at all?
Or...cut your maternity leave short but only work part time for a while?

KIT are keeping in touch days there is no definition of what constitues keeping in touch it can be training or it can just be working your regular role to keep your skills fresh. So you can use the 10 KIT for a particular project, but it is limited to 10 days.

You can do whatever you like with your KIT days but if you return to work 4 hours a week you 've returned to work so your SMP will stop.
