Any Companies offer School Shifts

Hello

Our DS starts his reception place next week :( my OH has been hinting about me going back to work whilst DS is at school, the problem I face is we dont have any back up plan. i.e we can not get him picked up by others etc, the school does not do any after school clubs.

So basically I need a company thats lets me have off all the holidays and any sickness day and the usual "there is a snowflake so we are shutting the school"

My OH can't be contacted due to job, so it is up to me.. are there any companies that do these sort of hours...

When I phoned Morrisons they said they dont allow staff to carry their phones during work time, but I could give the school the office number...

there are some jobs like that - favorite can be TA at a school - or have you looked at childminders
and there must be families with two working parents at your school what do they do?

oh and I posted this before but if you are in reach of london womenlikeus do really good courses about finding part-time work - I don't work for them - I just did one of their courses and found it excellent and very good value for money

Childminder? What do other working parents do?
It's hard to believe you'd be the only family in the school needing childcare!
The not carrying your phone on you doesn't have to be an issue: as long as you are contactable . If you are in a job where you're not allowed your mobile on your person or in situations where it must be switched off (which is not that uncommon) then you give a work number as one of your contacts to the school, and if they needed to get hold of you urgently then someone at work would fetch you.

I think childminder is more realistic than hoping to find a job where you can get every school holiday off, every inset day, and do the school drop off and pick up every day!! The only thing I can even think of is a classroom assistant, but it would have to be in your own children's school (otherwise you wouldn't be there at beginning and end of day) and no doubt you would have to work training days anyway, so you would need childcare for that.

We have only recently got an after school club at my kids school, which I use a couple of days a week; before that I used a cm, and the kids still go to her 3 times a week and every morning before school- many of us wouldn't be able to work at all without a cm. Ours is wonderful.
