Teaching Assistants-No holiday pay?

Just a quick question, is it true that teaching assistants don't get paid for the school holidays?

Isn't it included in the term time hourly rate?

I don't know, but from what i read in an article recently,it seems not.

I don't think they do, I might be wrong though. I knew someone that used to work in a school library and she didn't get paid for holidays the salary was divided up throughout the year, used to really annoy her, she left the job now.

I thought this was the same for dinner ladies as well. larsxx

it used to be possible to sign on in the holidays but the rules for that changed in 2002 or thereabouts, so not sure what the current position is.. I think employment law says that you should get pro rata holiday pay but might be wrong, some contracts are termly aren't they?

I'm not a TA but work term time. I work 39 weeks per year - get paid for 43 (so 4 weeks paid leave)and the total is split into 12 monthly payments.

Teachers dont get paid holidays, their salary is divided up over the year though so that they still get paid during the holidays, but not FOR thee holidays. I assume it's the same for TAs.
