Seriously considering finding a new job and jacking this one in........

even though I love the work I've had the shittest start to my birthday imaginable.

First of all the manager has found the 5th (and final) nightgirl we needed, so decided to take the rotas down and re-do them (the night supervisor spents HOURS working them out to fit in as closely as possible with what we all wanted - and expected the new girl to 'fill the gaps').

The girl who she thinks I'm "too pally" with and I aren't working together AT ALL over the 2 rotas (Night supervisor obviously saw the merits in having two people that get along well working together and had us down for 4/6 nights over the 2 rotas).

A while back, when telling the night supervisor how she'd like the rotas done (I was there at the time) she said "make sure that each of the girls are on at least once with you every fortnight - so she did. The new rotas have me with NS 3 times, and friend with NS 3 times........the other two girls not at all!!!

Then this morning NS (who I was on with last night/early morning) got up 7/11 people we got up - didn't think I'd shaved someone and said "can you please shave X, you've signed to say you've done it but obviously haven't" - so the poor bloke was given a 2nd shave by me - and still didn't look like he'd been done.

Then to top it all off it starting p*ssing down with hailstones when I was on my way home Sad.

Mind you - I did find 4 presents,2 cards and big cake sat on the table to greet me when I got from DH and the boys - so that cheered me up a bit.

But honestly don't know if I can hack being treated like this. I love the work I do, I love the residents, but when the manager (and one of the other seniors) seem to have it "in" for me don't think I'll be able to cope long term.

I'm still on probation - so haven't signed my contract yet - does that mean I could "just leave" - or would I still have to give notice??

I'd look for another job

Make sure you have a "good" reason for leaving

When you have your new job give 1 weeks notice (and use any leave you have to cut it short or offer to lose pay for that week)

Then start at new job and ignore all bad feeling for the old one

Katymac · 14/03/2006 07:37

Happy Birthday btw

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 14/03/2006 07:43

Just have to think of a "good" reason for leaving...........

The boys are just getting up - so I'm off to open my presents (opened the cards but resisted the temptation to open the presents until they're up) and then go to bed.........and hope the rest of my day is better.

Is it too far away

Do the hours conflict with your family (make sur ethye aren't the same hrs you are going for)

Do they pay too little (make sure new job isn't the same)

Has the bus to get there been cancelled

Did your car get vandalised outside

I'll think of some more

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 14/03/2006 08:17

not too far away - 5 minute walk

Hours could be a good one (as long as I don't go for nights again)

Pay isn't great I guess

Don't need a bus

Don't drive.

But DH is in agreement with me and has just cheered me up massively with my BD presents - a lovely new fluffy dressing gown, and some new PJ's - oh and a bottle of Malt Whisky too Grin (as well as the yummy looking cake).

Apparently he was going to book me a day at the "local" Spa Break place - but the first available day wasn't until May - and he wanted me to be able to be pampered before then - so went for "2nd best" (his words not mine - I think they're fabulous Smile)

You could still go for nights and say that the shifts started/finished at a different time

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 14/03/2006 08:20

that's true - anyhow - I'm off to spend the first half of my birthday 'proper' - in bed - just have to make sure I set the alarms so I wake up in time to pick DS1 up from school at 3.20 LOL.

Morning HRH and happy birthdaySmile

I too used to be in a similar situation as you and left as a result. My senior manager picked me up on everything I did, even though I worked really hard and, accordingly to my other colleagues, did a great job - nothing was ever good enough some how for her. Of course behaviour like this is just bullying. There are lots of websites about bullying in the workplace now that will give you advice but the long and short of it is find another job. I took a lower paid job and did not regret it. The relief I felt leaving was enormous.
Funnily enough, I saw the woman concerned just before Christmas and, having been sacked from the senior management job, now has a crap job that she hates and a bullying boss - ha, that'll show her!!
Find yourself a better job honey.

Thanks Missbossy - not had a bad "day" so far - been asleep and only got up 1hr ago lol.

I've slept on it, and decided I'm definitely going to look for a new job. I can't afford anything with less pay (don't get paid much as it is), but at the moment would rather do anything than have to work in this environment. Have to find something within walking/decent (haha) bus route from me, as I don't drive, and also with hours to fit round DH's work - but I'm already on the hunt.

DH said to me this morning that he'd never heard anything so ludicrous as the boss saying "you musn't get too pally with X" - as he says - as long as the work gets done (and our last 2 shifts at the weekend went brilliantly) it doesn't matter.

if you're still on probation, you can just leave. just as they can just dismiss you.

i'd get another job pronto.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 14/03/2006 19:45

Thanks expat - didn't know the 'ins and outs' of it all - going to buy the local paper with the job section in it on Thursday and start hunting. I'll stick this one out until I find something, can't afford to just quit.
