Advice please - my sis 6 mths pregnant and redundancy likely - does she have any rights?

Hello,
Thanks for reading.
My younger sister is 6 months pregnant and just found out today that she may be made redundant along with 5 others. I just wondered if her employer was within their rights.
I don't have all the facts but just thought I'd ask here!
The period of consultation has now started and she was given her pack and told to go home for the day to digest the information. She is obviously a bit thrown by all this as she was planning on staying there until she went on maternity leave and then have a year off.
Any advice welcomed please.
thanks
Jess

I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure they are allowed to as long it is not because she is pregnant. As it is after she is 15 weeks pregnant she will be entitled to any redundancy pay and also statutory maternity pay for the full 39 weeks.

Agree with sammy, as long as the pregnancy is not the reason for the redundancy, then she has no additional protection .

Thanks Sammy, that is brilliant. She has been there for quite a few years so her redundancy package should be pretty good.

Very kind of you to respond

I don't think there is any discrimination as 4 others (not pregnant but all female) are all been made redundant at the same time.

thanks again
