To take VR or not

Hello, I am in dilemma of wether taking voluntary redundancy or going back to work part-time. In my mind there are so many questions.

If I take VR I will be able to live on the money for about 3 years. but will I be able to get another job after that? Is it better if I stay at home and take care of my son rather than sending him to the nursery? or Nursery will be good for him in terms of learning to be social? etc, etc...

I would love to hear any mumsnetter's experiences on staying at home and went back to a new job after several years.

Many thanks!

I would reccomed you read 'How not to f* them up' by Oliver James and 'Raising Babies' by Stephen Biddulph. Both contain reviews of academic research on just the questions you have asked about what's best for DCs and Oliver James focusses on how the answer will be different for different Mothers and takes into account that some will be more fufilled if they work and some if they stay at home. He also looks at different types of childcare and how each might suit you better.

Will you be able to get another job? Well I took VR at the end of my maternity leave and i have not regretted it, but I am finding it daunting starting to look for a job again now. However, perhaps the economy mght be better in 3 years?
