Full time job - part time hours

Hi All
I have seen a full time post (35 hrs) advertised which I am quite interested in, but ideally would prefer to work 30 hours to avoid childcare costs. It is a new post and I have contacted personnel to see if there would be scope for part time hours and they have said that it is advertised as full time but if offered the post I would have chance to raise it then. So do I apply and put in my application about my prefered hours or do I see how far I get? I am just not sure how realistic my chances are? Anyone with simular experience or ideas on how I can juggle the hours?

Well you've nothing to lose by applying and asking for pt hours if you get that far. Don't ask, don't get and all that.
Not sure how an hour per day would save you childcare though. I know someone who works till 230 every day to do afterschool pickup but that's a bit less than 30 hours per week.
