P45

Dh started at the end of June and 5 weeks later they ended the contract siting not enough work for all the employee's. He told them last Friday, that he would return the uniform today and would expect his payslip and his P45. We got there at 12pm today and they said they didn't have either ready as the person had been off all week and they would deliver it to him.

How long should a P45 take? Whenever I've left a job I've had my P45 enclosed with my last payslip from them. Dh when he employed people always had it ready for their last payslip too.

P45 is prepared at the same time as the final payslip. If the person who deals with payroll is off, then they can't do it and I guess that they will do it when they return.

If it is a monthly payroll, then it would be normal to wait until the usual date to get final payslip and P45 though.

P45 can be up to two weeks later.
More than that and a threat of calling HMRC works wonders

Thank you. Considering they told him to come in today to collect it has annoyed me as it means a bit of a trek out of our way.

Can anyone help me with this? dh had a casual contract which ended 11 july. Company told him that there was sure to be work at the beginning of september so to keep in touch. He was paid on the 20 july into his bank account (which included holiday pay) but has not received his P45 or final pay slip.

He signed on on the 12 July and has since then received dole money. What I am wondering is, "is he still employed by the company" as no P45 received. Will we have to pay dole money back? Any thoughts welcome.

when he signed on he will have done a P46 - zero hour contracts like he had are not uncommon.
if he did not do a p46, the dole office will chase it up - not his (or your) problem if the leaving date comes through correct.

Just asked DH - he didn't do a P46 but as he hasn't been paid by any other means, I assume he is due his dole money. Just got to hope that they will need him in September!
