Maternity Leave & Redundancy

Hi

I hope someone can help me.

I was put at risk of redundancy the day before I found out i was pregnant.

As it stands my employment will end 31 December.

My expected due date is 15 March.

Where do I stand with this?

If anyone has any information i would appreciate it i have been reading the government website but confused about it.

I have been with my employer for a year.

I have not let them know I am pregnant yet as i had a loss in February so was waiting for my 12 week scan before telling anyone.

Thanks!

Not sure exactly what you mean by 'where do I stand'.. If you're asking about maternity pay, then as long as you meet the earnings criteria for SMP, you will be still employed at 15 weeks before your due date, so will still get SMP.

Presumably as they didn't know you were pregnant you are not concerned there has been any discrimination or anything?

thank you. no i am not concerned about discrimination. my role has greatly decreased and that is the reason i will be made redundant.

i did mean if i would be entitled to it as i was confused about this 15 week thing but i now understand that if you are still employed by your 25th week of pregnancy you will be entitled to this which i will be. i do also meet the earnings criteria.

OK that's fine then. It's good because although you won't get benefits/holiday etc as you would if you were still employed, otherwise you will get exactly what you would have got so it gives you time off with your baby and time to sort out another job.
