Can someone explain this to me? I can't figure out if it's allowed to take a contract off the site so you're not paying them fees for processing your invoices.

I'm in the process of negotiating some ongoing work on there, and I'm more than happy to invoice the person directly and save a bit of money, as I'll know soon enough if they're going to not pay me and I won't have lost too much if that does happen.

Can anyone advise me as I've never actually managed to get work through there before!

Thanks

You aren't supposed to, but not really sure what they can do about it...It is unlikely that they will seek you/the client out to check what happened etc.

I would say though, that getting paid through the site does offer protection. I strayed off site and had to resort to threatening letters etc. Also, if you want to build up a profile on the site, receiving (good!) feedback on the site can help win future bids.

I also feel on some level that the site should be supported (despite the fact I went off site) as it provides a good way to find clients and if everybody didn't pay them their commission etc...

Following my experience and the above view, I tend to ask for the first month/bit to go through PPH and then move off after that. I think it sends a good msg to the client - I want paying asap!!

Good luck with the work.

I've used people from people per hour and I've made sure that I've gone through the site until I'm really happy with them. It gives me and them time to see if we can work together until you have built up a level of trust. Also as I new small business the freelancer needs to be able to trust me to.
