Two Interviews On The Same Day Dilemma

After tons of applications and no interest, I've suddenly got myself in a situation where I have two interviews on the same day. The two jobs are very different, both look interesting and good opportunities on paper.

So my very hypothetical dilemma is, in the (very) unlikely event I get offered one of them before I've heard from the other, how do I politely keep my options open and not accept straight away, without it sounding like I have deep reservations about the role being offered?

I realise that by simply posting this, I've probably jinxed myself and I'll get neither Grin

Congratulations on the interviews - really good going.

I'd have thought this was better, in fact, than having them days apart. Is there anything in the blurb about how long the employer will take to decide? Any employer should reasonably expect applicants to have a bit of time to mull over an offer, but I'd have thought more than a couple of days would seem a bit much unless, of course, there were elements of a package to be discussed.

It's perfectly acceptable at the end of an interview to ask roughly how long you can expect to wait for the result; interviewers should, imho, make sure they tell candidates this automatically. So make sure you ask and this may give you more of an idea. If there's one you decide you want much more and they take much longer to tell you the result, you can call them up and say you're weighing up another offer but that you really want their job, so could they tell you if you're still in contention.

Best of luck.

Thank you - had both interviews today and I think both went well. Got good vibes from both, but vastly preferred location number 2 who I think are likely to call me first, it's hard to tell.

I hope they call me first and they want me :) Definite biting nails time - I hate the waiting.

Thank you for the luck!

OH meant to say, didn't really get a firm deadline from location 1 when they'd call, but location 2 said by the end of tomorrow. So a good chance at least that they'll contact me first and bypass any moral dilemmas!

Good news - hope it works out for you.

What a day!

Got location 1 job offer (a good one) fairly early on and managed to delay successfully (went the complete honesty route in the end and said that I was waiting for another interview result and that I wanted to make the decision knowing all the facts).

Then finally found out half an hour ago that I didn't get location 2 - after which point I'd already talked myself out of it anyway and that location 1 was the better job and would suit me better. Waiting for the contract and then good to go :)

Thanks for all your good wishes!
