Recruitment question

Can any recruiters advise me please?
At the end of interviews recruitment consultants always seem to ask if I'm going for other roles/any upcoming interviews etc. What is the correct answer? Why do they ask?
They never seem to probe too much i.e. it doesn't seem like they are after other leads.
I'm usually honest and say I have a couple of interviews lined up so I don't sound like a no-hoper but would be really interested to know why the question is asked and what the best reply is.

I am not a professional recruiter though do interviews for new staff. If the candidate is a strong one, it is to assess how quickly we need to act if we were interested in making an offer. If the candidate is already at 2nd interview elsewhere and we were only at first, then we might speed up the second interview.

ooh thank you that is very helpful; was getting recession-paranoid that agencies/organisations wanted me to show loyality before I'd even got the job!!
